Patents are a form of legal protection that grants the patent holder exclusive rights to their invention for a limited period of time. SPIDER advises the iDART members on IPR patents so that they can get intellectual property
rights granted for their inventions or technical innovations. IPR patents play a crucial role in protecting and incentivizing innovation by providing inventors with exclusive rights to their inventions.
They promote
technological progress, encourage investment in research and development, and facilitate the commercialization of new ideas and inventions.
SIPDER helps and advises the IDART members on the process of obtaining a patent that involves filing a patent application with the relevant patent office, such as the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) or
the European Patent Office (EPO) or India.
The application typically includes a detailed description of the invention, claims that define the scope of the invention, and any necessary drawings or figures. The application
is examined by a patent examiner, and if the requirements are met, a patent may be granted.

National patents are filed and granted in individual countries, while regional patents, such as the European Patent, provide protection in multiple countries within a specific region. International patent protection can be obtained through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), which facilitates the filing of a single patent application that can be examined and potentially granted in multiple countries.Patent protection can be sought at national, regional, or international levels.
